Garden Tips Edmonton http://hpg.pw/ All right once you have turned over all of the sod in your garden, what you would want to do is come in and break off most of this dirt. Some people I know will put this back in the bottom. But I don't like to because I am afraid I am going to just regrow the weeds or the grass that was there, so I will put this in my compost pile. But now that we are here, you can see we've got some dirt here but in order to make good growing soil and a good growing bed for your garden, you've got to get down a good 12 to 18 inches. So what you are going to do is what you call double digging. You are going to dig this hole, you are going to take all of the dirt out of it, you are going to put the dirt to the side or in front of it and you are going to do this all th...

potatoes are one of my favorite crops to grow and harvest in my urban garden. Today I am going to show you how I grow my potatoes and double my harvest without having to increase the number of grow bags or space needed. I start my potatoes in grow bags in the garage usually 4 weeks before the last frost usually in early April. I fill the bags with 1/2 potting mix and 1/2 compost. The compost feeds the plants while the potting mix holds water. I fill them 3/4 the way full. I then toss a whole seed potato in the soil and just cover it completely. If the eyes are large enough I allow some of the eyes to poke above the soil. Those eyes will form the plant. The extra bag is fairly easy to roll down helping to prevent shading the early growth. it is important to start your potatoes as e...

On Todays episode we are going to kick off the frugal garden challenge with a few tips on planning. If you remember from my 2015 goals video I am along with Huw and Patrick are doing the Frugal Garden Challenge. We will be working to not only show that you can garden cost effectively but it can produce great results! So on to the tips! Tip 1: The initial list Write down all of the fruits and vegetables that you purchase from the grocery store. This is easy to do if you save your receipts for a few weeks. This will give you your initial list. The second part of tip 1 is to look up if you can grow the fruits and veggies in your zone. This should be fairly easy to do. What I did to find my growing zone was hop on google and searched growing zone Edmonton and it told me I was in Zone 3 with and an average between 120 to 140 frost free days. Then all you have to do is search each crop and often they will have a hardiness zone and days to ripeness. As long as your zone is higher and the average frost free days are longer you should be able to grow if a well lit garden. Tip 2 Pricing the crops This is an easy one to do take a look at the receipts you have been saving or take a quick run through the grocery store. Finding out which vegetables cost the most in your area will help you save more money by focusing on the costly crops as appose to the cheaper ones. That said the caveat to this tip is grow what you enjoy goring. Gardening is not just a utilitarian excursive but a cultural experience and great hobby. Tip 3 Save your Seeds Seeds are usually the most cost effective way to grow your plants. Saving seeds from plants is usually free or very very low cost. if you have a surplus you can trade seeds on lots of local sites to increase the number of varieties you have to plant. The next best thing is hopping on a seed buying website. When you plant the seeds you can make them really stretch if you save them in a dry dark area and only plant one see each time when you need them. This avoids the loss of viable seeds through thinning. Tip 4 Use Local Free Resources Now that you have your plants growing its time to think about feeding your plants. If your soil is healthy it should have more then enough nutrients for your plants. I generally add moderate amounts of free resources you can find in most communities. Things like fall leaves, municipal wood chips and used coffee grounds can be added as a mulch to the surface of your soil and will not only feed your plants over the long term but will keep weeds down and help retain moisture! So finding these resources in your community will help once you get out and grow your garden. I would love to know how you save money in your garden! Some of my favorite childhood memories are of gardening with my parents and brothers. This channel is about low cost organic urban gardening in zone 3. I am by no means an expert gardener however I love to share my experiments and journey garden year round. Please feel free to join the conversation and if you think you might like this channel subscribe. Have a great day! They feature primarily organic and always healthy ingredients to make meals that taste amazing, even if you aren't a vegan. Many gluten free options and an stunning array of tasty and healthy elixirs and healthy drinks. If you have any questions, PLEASE don't be afraid to ask. Also, please subscribe, share, comment or leave your own video comment if possible! If you prefer to read or scan the text, rather than watching the video, here's the transcript: Title: Noorish Reviews - Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurant Edmonton All the dialogue in this video is actual Noorish Reviews left on Yelp, Tripadvisor, or Google+ by real Noorish customers. My favorite dishes are the bodhi tree burger and the pad thai! Highly recommend anyone to go even if you don't think you're into vegan food you MUST give it a try!! If you are vegan and looking for a new restaurant in Edmonton you need to go to Noorish! And even if you are not Vegan you still need to try Noorish! We had the Poutine to start and the gravy on top was so delicious and it was a miso base. The Pad Thai was delicious and the Bodhi Burger was spectacular. “Go for the yoga, stay for the food! ” I am a foodie, and eat out in Edmonton a lot- from fine dining to food trucks. I am not a vegetarian, nor do I actively avoid gluten and Noorish is still one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton. Everything is made from wholesome, natural foods and with an abundance of flavours. Must try the poutine made with root vegetables and cashew butter and the pad Thai! Better than the traditional versions and with healthier ingredients so you don't feel as sinful when you have a delicious Nanaimo bar (or two to go!) I was even inspired to buy a nut filtering bag from their store in the back to make my own almond milk at home. My only complaint is there isn't a south side location so I could go more often! “Fantastic food, great atmosphere ” I'm a vegetarian but have always been wary of vegan restaurants as I feel the food would be limited or weird - but not at Norrish! Kale chips with cashew cheese was gorgeous and tasted like cheese! I had Thai green curry, which was great. We were even given a sample Elxir which definitely saved us from a hangover the next day! I'd definitely go back “Lovely restaurant! Fantastic Food! Vegetarian dining at it's finest.” The waiter was friendly and genuine. He made excellent suggestions and was very knowledgeable about the menu. I started with the Golden Potato Cakes and they were not greasy at all, perfectly browned. For my main I had the Pad Thai. I also had the Mulled Wine with my meal and found it to taste like apple pie. Very yummy and perfectly spiced. This is my go to vegan restaurant in the city. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Staff is always excellent. Food is unbelievable. We take our non vegan friends because we know they will enjoy it. Noorish is AMAZING! Pretty much everything you eat is a hit with my favourite being the tacos/ lettuce wraps. I have to say, I'm a pretty big meat eater so was surprised that with all the flavour in every dish, I didn't miss meat at all. Also, the drinks are delightful, I felt instantly healthier with the two that I tried (it's hard to have just one). We need more places like Noorish around the country :) And the patio is pretty awesome too!

In 2016 the Shaw Conference Centre installed one urban beehive on the southeast corner of its property. The urban beekeeping project compliments the convention centre's sustainable permaculture and contributes to its urban biodiversity. 60 pounds of honey was produced in the first year! The honey will be used by the Shaw Conference Centre chefs.

You are going to dig this hole, you are going to take all of the dirt out of it, you are going to put the dirt to the side or in front of it and you are going to do this all the way down the length of the bed that you've decided to create. Then the best thing to do is come in with some good organic material. This is our own compost that we make. You can see we've got a few roots left in it that we make out of our own weeds, plants, whatever we have on hand as composted. I put a good amount of this in it. This bed is going to be up above ground level by the time that I get it finished. There is no reason for it to be sunk down into the ground. Once I put that compost in, I can come back and mix back in my dirt and then, with my fork I would mix this up. By the time I get finished, I will have a nice mounded bed of really good draining quality soil that has a high organic content in it, draining being the operative word. If you can pick up the dirt out of your hole that you've dug and squeeze it and it stays complete, this is not too hard. This is fine. If it just stays like a big lump, like a lump of clay, then you want to put some sand in it as well as organic matter because it will not drain. This crumbles. You want it to be crumbly. It should be moist and crumbly. If it is too dry, put in some peat and then peat moss, organic material, good dirt and you are ready to go. Garden Tips Edmonton http://hpg.pw/

potatoes are one of my favorite crops to grow and harvest in my urban garden. The extra bag is fairly easy to roll down helping to prevent shading the early growth. it is important to start your potatoes as early as you can in order for this method to work. During the day I bring the potatoes out onto the drive way returning them at night until the last frost. Once the threat of frost has passed I put them in the garden area. When the plants are 30cm or 12 inches tall I add more compost and potting soil to mound them. This protects the potatoes growing below from greening which ruins them and can cause irritation if eaten. I don't fill the bags however all of the way though and you will see why in a minute. Before I get to the tip to double the potato harvest I would like to speak about potatoes in general. Most seed potatoes you can purchase such as these Rosemarie, which are pink and Purple Magic are determinant varieties. What that means is you plant them and they put on one crop all at the same time. The rosemarie potatoes are a faster producing than the purple magic helping me spread the harvests out. I should be able to harvest these from Mid-July through to late September. In order to spread out the harvest and double up on crops I have done a few things. The first is doubling up on the crop I get per bag. These two varieties are determinant so the first plant I just hilled will only produce one crop below where we hilled up the soil. Meaning you can plant another seed potato above the first effectively allowing you to double up your plants per container and hence the harvest. So when hilling I don't fill the bags all the way and plant the second seed potato again with some eyes pointing up. After these plants grow I will top off the containers. I dont do this with all of my potato bags. In fact I chose these 11 litre or 3 gallon 100 percent recycled fabric pots so that I can harvest them earlier than the ones I doubled up on. As you all know I love to spread my harvest out. It is time to harvest the double bags when the second plant begins to die back. This method can be done if you are growing your potatoes in raised beds or rows. Simply hill your potatoes and plant the new seeds between the plants. If you visit Rundle Park this summer, you’ll likely run into a herd of goats. About 170 goats have been brought in to combat noxious weeds at the northeast Edmonton park. Quinn speaks with the city’s goat program coordinator for the details. #Goats #RundlePark #Edmonton * * * #Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please#Subscribe_please * * * #Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share#Share * * * LIKE | COMMENT | SHARE | SUBSCRIBE ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩#Rebas_Rebas۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ follow us on: Official Website : http://rebasrebas.blogspot.com/ The official Facebook page : https://goo.gl/eAWHDX Twitter official page : https://twitter.com/rebasrebas1994 Google Plus Official Page : https://goo.gl/pTrTK6 Google Plus Official Page : https://goo.gl/Xd6WCP Profil : https://www.reddit.com/user/RebasRebas/ BLOG : https://rebasrebas.skyrock.com/ BLOG : https://rebasrebas.tumblr.com/ Profil : https://rebasrebas.skyrock.com/profil/ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞#Rebas۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #Rebas_Rebas #Rebas
